A moment that travelled further than I expected

Photographed at Woodlands Estate

This image was taken during a Tie the Knot Thursday wedding at Woodlands Estate.
It captures a quiet moment of connection—where everything else fades and only presence remains.

This piece was later selected for the LOVE Exhibition in Paris by Art-Icon.org.

Bradley & Tara,
Woodlands Estate

This moment was captured during a Tie the Knot Thursday wedding at Woodlands Estate — an intimate celebration shared by Bradley and Tara Harper alongside just a handful of their closest people.

It was a beautifully quiet day, with a strong sense of closeness running through everything. Tara and Bradley had such an easy connection—especially in the way she would light up every time she looked at him.

My approach on days like this is very intentional. I don’t leave everything entirely to chance—I guide couples into light, shape the environment, and create space where something real can unfold. I like to think of it as posed unposed: everything is set up carefully in the background, so what happens in front of the camera still feels completely natural and unforced.

For this part of their portrait session, I positioned them within the softer light of the gardens at Woodlands Estate and gave them just enough direction to settle into each other. From there, I stepped right back—out of their immediate awareness—so they could simply be together without feeling watched.

This image came right at the end of that moment. I had set the scene, placed them in the right light, and then allowed the connection between them to take over. Bradley lifted Tara in a spontaneous gesture that wasn’t posed or prompted in that instant—it just happened naturally within the space that had been created for it.

Even in the middle of the day, that section of the gardens offered this soft, filtered light that wrapped around them in a way that felt almost effortless. It brought a calm, cinematic quality to the frame that reflects exactly how the moment felt.

For me, this image sits right at the heart of how I work—structured enough to create beauty, but loose enough to let real emotion take over.

Artist Statement

I’m Sarah—a wedding photographer based in New Zealand, drawn to real connection, honest emotion, and the in-between moments that feel like they matter long after the day is over.

My work sits somewhere between gentle direction and natural unfolding. I don’t simply observe a wedding day, and I don’t overly stage it either. Instead, I work in a way I like to call posed unposed—where I thoughtfully guide couples into light, space, and connection, so what happens next feels effortless and real.

That might look like placing you in the right pocket of light, creating a calm environment away from distractions, or gently prompting movement or interaction that helps you settle into each other. From there, I step back and let things unfold naturally. Nothing feels forced, but everything is considered.

I’m especially drawn to the quiet moments between people—the way someone looks at their person when they think no one is watching, or how a small gesture can hold an entire relationship in it. These are the moments I look for, and the ones I build space around.

My approach is calm, intentional, and unobtrusive. I won’t take you away from your day for hours or turn your wedding into a production. Instead, I work alongside it—blending into the background when needed, and stepping in with direction when it helps create something beautiful.

For me, photography is not about perfection. It’s about presence. It’s about creating images that feel like how the day actually felt, not just how it looked.

If you’re someone who values natural emotion, soft direction, and storytelling that feels honest but beautifully composed, we’ll probably work really well together.
